Child Care Ministry

Programs

St. Matthew Child Care Ministry offers multi-aged classroom instruction.  We participate in a voluntary accreditation program.  By participating in Paths to Quality your child receives the highest quality child care.  All teachers receive 20 hours of professional training to stay current in Early Childhood Education.  Eighty percent of the teaching staff is trained in Early Childhood Education.  This means that all teachers have a degree from an accredited University.  Your child must be three years of age by Aug 1st.  Children enrolled must be potty trained in order to attend.    All classes and the daycare operate from August-May each year.  We do follow the MSD school calendar.  We will be closed all other MSD holidays in which school is not in session.  We are open from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm Monday-Friday.  We do not open until the first day of school and we close care in our building on the last day of school.   Classes begin at 8:00 and end at 11:00.  We offer extended care and provide full day learning opportunities until 5:30.  You may contact us at 838-1995 for any questions or to take a tour of the child care program.

Curriculum

St. Matthew Preschool and Daycare use two curriculum approaches in educating your child.  The overall program used is the High Scope Approach.  With this approach adults and children share control.  We recognize that the power to learn resides in the child.  We accept that learning comes from within, and the teachers role is to support and guide young children through active learning adventures and experiences.  We have a plan-do-review process daily with classroom lessons, and consistent daily routines that we follow.  The classrooms are organized into specific learning centers; classroom items are labeled and organized.  We use the Letter People program daily for early literacy, writing, math, and science skills.  Your child will meet a variety of letter people along the way at St. Matthews.  Overall we work as a team to support and build on children’s interests and strengths.  We also understand that each child is unique and learns at their own pace.  Each teacher recognizes that and supports your Childs level of achievement.
